I had a pretty good lesson today. Cindy said that my eight-step mohawk sequence was looking about a hundred times better than it did the first time I showed it to her about a month ago. Of course, she helped me to debug a few more flaws as well … but it was feeling much better by the end of the session. She also taught me the Willow Waltz, which is definitely the most complex dance I’ve learned so far. It has two changes of direction and quite a bit of backward skating. But I got it by the end of the session, so that was exciting! We also talked about testing my preliminary dances in November.

It is good to learn all of these dances now, so I’ll have something new to work on over the winter while Cindy is gone. I wasn’t having such a good time with my Juvenile moves today, the double threes were giving me lots of trouble. I was feeling a bit more comfortable with the back power threes, but I didn’t do them for Cindy, so I don’t know if I’ve actually made any improvements there. The forward and backward cross strokes were also feeling a bit more comfortable, but I don’t think I was generating nearly enough power. I don’t know why I find it so scary to hold deep edges. More advanced skaters make them look so comfortable and easy. I need to purchase a set of CDs of the ISU compulsory dance music. That would make a good Christmas list item.
