It’s been a little weird now that I don’t need to work on my pre-juvenile moves anymore. Cindy and I have gone through the Juvenile moves and cleaned up a bunch of stuff, so I’m making good progress there. Even the scary backward power 3s are coming along. We’ve also been working a lot on dances. I’m feeling pretty comfortable with the preliminary and pre-bronze dances. So far, Cindy has taught me the Swing dance and refreshed my memory on the Fiesta tango. We’re also working on partnering for all of the dances. Yesterday, she taught me the Hickory Hoedown, which is a Bronze dance.
I’m probably ready to test the preliminaries & pre-bronzes, but I have to have a partner, so I don’t know if I’ll be able to test at Lane County Ice in November. I enjoy doing dance enough that I don’t know if it really matters whether I test or not. I really like the flow of ice dance. I also like skating to the beat of the music. I find that it helps me overcome some of the fear when I’m concentrating on sticking with the beat. I don’t know if I’d get the same effect skating to music in a freestyle program since that isn’t as rhythmically driven.
