I passed my Pre-Juvenile Moves in the Field test yesterday. What a relief! I didn’t make any major mistakes and all three judges passed me with no reskates. I felt pretty good during the test, but nerves were a bit of an issue. I didn’t skate any of the moves as well as the best I’ve ever skated them in practice or during a lesson. Still, I was able to show sufficient mastery of the moves to pass the test. Much of the actual testing is a blur; I don’t remember many details. I think I remembered to keep my chin up, but I don’t remember consciously thinking about it. I wish I had a video tape so that I could analyze how I skated in a little more detail. Oh, well. Maybe next time.
One judge gave me a 2.6 on my backward perimeter stroking and one gave me a 2.6 on my power pulls, but I got at least the minimum passing mark of 2.7 on all of my other moves from all three judges. A couple of judges even gave me 2.8s on my forward perimeter stroking. Some of the comments were useful, and others were kind of bizzare. Hopefully, Cindy can help me to decipher them and use them to improve my overall skating. Who knows when I’ll be ready to test Juvenile MIF. Not by November, I’m certain. Maybe next spring. If I work on dances with Cindy this fall, I might be ready to test those in November. I’d also like to work on spinning.
